Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy

Bio-Identical Hormone replacement therapy:  Bio-Identical hormone therapy is just that hormones that are “identical” in molecular structure to your own hormones. As we age, we notice sometimes subtle other times dramatic changes in sleep, concentration, body weight, and mood.  These symptoms are often due to hormone depletions. As a whole body, stress, diet. Lifestyle, gut, can cause hormones to fluctuate dramatically. Wendy Finkelstein PA-C takes these factors into consideration when balancing hormones and utilizes specialized test from state of the art laboratories that include not just blood but urine to evaluate markers of poor hormonal detoxification and genetics that play a very important role.

Almost everyone over the age of 40 (and in many cases over 30) begins to experience hormone imbalance. Over your lifetime, you are exposed to environmental and dietary toxins, which contribute to the natural decline of hormones as you age. Though there are many forms of hormone imbalance, menopause is among the most common in women. Menopause is the time in a woman’s life when ovarian production of estrogen, progesterone and testosterone begin to decline. Although menopause is medically defined as the time during which a woman ceases to menstruate for at least 12 months, the onset can occur up to 10 years before that, in a stage referred to as perimenopause.

Women can suffer from symptoms of hormonal imbalance at any point in the life cycle, as hormonal changes can be affected by several factors, including stress, diet, pregnancy, childbirth, perimenopause, and menopause. This is why most practitioner recommend that women have their hormone levels checked by age 30 to establish a baseline.

Men & Hormone Therapy

For men, most complaints stem from a gradual decline in testosterone. Symptoms of hormonal decline in men can manifest in many ways, from emotional, psychological, and behavioral changes to loss of energy, decreased stamina and sexual dysfunction. Although a decline in hormone levels will occur with age in virtually all men, there is no way to predict who will experience andropause symptoms of sufficient severity to seek medical help. This is why it is critically to know that low testosterone levels can severely impact a man’s quality of life and may expose him to more significant health problems like heart disease, osteoporosis and stroke.

Metabolic Performance Panel and Micronutrient Testing

Wouldn’t it be great to know which vitamins you may be missing? Which nutrients you could easily incorporate into your diet? Which supplements you can add to your daily routine? Most of us think we know what a healthy diet looks like, but we also hear conflicting information all around us. eat for your blood-type, eat smaller meals more often, eat all your meals in an 8 hour period, low calorie, low fat, low carb, high fat, high protein, take probiotics, take prebiotics, take this supplement, take

this vitamin drink this shake.

Link to Urinary metabolomic testing from Physicians Lab offers the most accurate results for biomarkers in the body. Physicians Lab’s method of collecting is simple and fast. The testing is easy to complete, requiring only a few drops of a first morning void urine sample. Physicians Lab has developed a novel LCMS/ MS assay to quantify 50 curated biomarkers in human urine. The results provide detailed information on how the body is metabolically balanced and are driven by algorithms to determine outcome-based recommendations which are supported by peer reviewed clinical literature and population wide association studies. The report is an on-demand analysis of phenotypical information to be used independently or compliment nutrigenomic testing. Providing personalized nutrition for individuals allows for an optimal diet, improved metabolic performance and disease prevention.

The Metabolic Performance Profile creates a personalized approach to optimal health through examining certain biomarkers of genetics, diet, lifestyle, environment, metabolism and detoxification to make assessments in the following areas:

  • Cellular Energy Production

  • B-Vitamin and Methylation

  • Inflammation and Oxidative Stress

  • Muscle Assessment

  • Gut Assessment

  • Essential and Non-Essential Amino Acids

Nutrigenomic Testing

More than 75% of all patients have significant genetic weaknesses and expend their valuable income on nutritional supplements. Without genetic validation of enzyme function, many supplements are not effectively delivered at the cellular level. Just because a patient has a (+ / +) or even a (+ / -), does not mean they have or will have a disease. It just means they have a predisposition to a condition, if exposed to the right environment, it may ignite that gene expression. A Genomic SNP is like a crack in the foundation of a bridge. Having knowledge of where the cracks are in our foundation, would tell us where not to put the most stress.

Immune response, inflammation, methylation, energy production, hormonal health, GI health and detoxification continue to emerge as the cornerstones of health and wellness. These cornerstones are all founded in how patients express their genes (epigenetics) and metabolize products (metabolomics). By identifying genetic predispositions as bumps in the road and making recommendations on how to modify both epigenetic expression and metabolism, practitioners have a road map to avoid the rocky roads and keep each patient on smooth pavement. Nephesh Health can make supplementation and lifestyle recommendations for each patient’s specific genetic makeup and then track epigenetic progress through monitoring the affected metabolic pathways of each genetic predisposition in either Hormone or Metabolic Performance Profiles. With Nutrigenomic testing, practitioners can identify common SNPs and use that information to either change the expression of those genes or support the pathways below the altered genes by introducing missing cofactors and nutrients.

23 and Me has gained popularity in the last few years, however many individuals are left with confusing data that is not applicable to their daily lives. Nephesh can now, with your permission, access your raw data and assess what SNPs may be important to address. Nephesh offers a free 15 minute nutrigenomic consultation for more information about this service.

Peptide Therapy

Peptide therapy is the use of peptides in treatment to direct cells to perform the function specific to the peptide being used. Since our bodies naturally produce many kinds of peptides, there are many different types of peptide therapy, all of which are used to trigger a specific function within the body.
